Emergency Medical and Rescue Training (EMRT)
for Arborists & Tree Care Professionals
“This course is something arborists, utility tree workers, public works, and forestry caretakers have been missing for a while. If your crew is ready for the next level operation, I highly recommend checking out the Emergency Medical Response Training course.”
Overview
Emergency Medical Rescue Training courses focus on first aid for tree care professionals and the injuries common on the job site. We split students into groups and practice first aid treatments with each other. A short portion of the course is outside, but 95% of the class is indoors. This is an 8-hour course with a lunch break in the middle.
Attendees in both 100 and 200 levels get hands-on experience with over $1,000 worth of first aid supplies.

“This is a fast-paced, relevant training with a lot of opportunities for hands on practice. I need this sort of training, and so does everyone I work with in the woods. Shelly did a great job of presenting this in a format and at a pace where I could learn and practice. They say there is nothing basic about training… and this course is truly designed to save lives. It was hands-on, and practical training for anyone working in blue collar trades.”

EMRT Level 100/200 (2024)
EMRT Level 200
16-Hour Course | 12 students maximum group size (or add an instructor for additional fee)
Overview
This course includes everything from the EMRT Level 100, but puts the Level 100 skills into a broader framework that help first responders develop a system of assessing and responding to emergencies, in addition to treatment-specific skills.
As such, Level 200 curriculum is not simply an “add on” to Level 100. Instead, it is a more comprehensive treatment curricular approach.
Additional Curriculum Beyond Level 200
Patient Assessment included. This is usually the first thing taught (Primary & Secondary assessments, vitals and patient history).
Life-like scenarios on the ground, using the company’s own equipment, chippers, chainsaw, stump grinders, etc.
Crew members are given fake injuries and the rest of the crew has to figure out how to treat and manage the scene. This can be tailored to the equipment each company uses.

“The EMR course exceeded my expectations. Shelly, who is a wilderness emergency medical professional as well as a working climbing arborist, delivered basic information in an easy-to-follow agenda. She went beyond basic first aid kit medical care and really tailored the material to our field. We did a lot of hands on practice and she made it as realistic as possible.
This course picks up where basic first aid/CPR and basic rescue classes end. We went over what to do for medical emergencies in the field if chainsaws, electrical shock or fall from height is involved. We talked about victim stabilization and appropriate first response care in the field - and we all practiced doing it with typical materials at hand.”
